Field Day 2007 |
||
What is FIELD DAY? According to the Amateur Radio Relay League, the object is, "To work as many stations as possible and in doing so, to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions." That’s the official reason for having FIELD DAY, but another reason is for Amateur Radio Operators and their families to get together to have LOTS OF FUN and show Visitors many of the things that can be done with Amateur Radio – from the old Morse code to the new satellite communications and latest digital modes. Kendall
County Amateur Radio (KARS) held their event up
in Boene at the Kendall County Fairgrounds. This site is on the edge
of the East side of Boerne.
SPECIAL NOTICE FOR 2007 Call in on the 146.64 repeater for assistance in gaining access to the fairgrounds, or bring something to show the gate guard saying you are with the KARS Ham club. There was a band concert event running that weekend that charged a $20/person entry fee to get onto the fairgrounds, but if you had KARS Ham Club ID, they let you in for free. Of course, any experienced ham will tell you, that a good story will usually get you past the volunteer or low paid gate guard anyway. Just be prepared to say you are there for the ham band radio event, not the music band concert. |
