Field Day

What is FIELD DAY?

On the 4th weekend in June each year, Amateur Radio Operators (Hams) all over the World will participate in an annual exercise called FIELD DAY.

According to the Amateur Radio Relay League, the object is, "To work as many stations as possible and in doing so, to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions." That’s the official reason for having FIELD DAY, but another reason is for Amateur Radio Operators and their families to get together to have LOTS OF FUN and show Visitors many of the things that can be done with Amateur Radio – from the old Morse code to the new satellite communications and latest digital modes.

In San Antonio area, we are forturnate to have multiple active clubs sponsoring events. The webmaster for SanAntonioHams.org web site has made a tradition in recent years of visiting as many of these sites as possible. We have photos from most of these sites for the years 2003, 2004 and 2006. In 2005, the web master was driving back from California during this weekend (operating from his mobile) and no photos were taken, and thus no page is available for display. Perhaps one of these days, when some spare time is found, we'll post the pictures received from other sources during that year's event.
